![]() » There are only approximately
5,000 to 7,400 tigers left in the wild. » The White Tiger is a good swimmer, but a very poor climber. » They may be slow runners, but they are stealthy enough to catch any prey in their sights. |
![]() » White tigers are born to
Bengal tigers that carry an unusual gene needed for white coloring. » The other four sub-species of tiger are Siberian, South China, Indochinese, and Sumataran. |
Size:
The male Bengal tiger can get up to ten feet long, from the end of its tail to its head, with a shoulder width of up to 3 feet, and can way up to 575 pounds. That's as much as three big men. Though it's quite large, the Bengal tiger is not the largest tiger. Its cousin, the Siberian tiger, is the world's largest cat. The Meal: Tigers are carnivores. They primarily eat animals like wild boars, monkeys, buffalo, wild oxen, and chital. Bengal tigers are nocturnal. The Bengal tiger is very fast, but only for short distances. When they want to eat animals that are faster than they are, the tiger stalks its prey The Bengal tiger, once it has caught its prey, bites its catch on the back of the neck to kill it, or. with larger animals, the tiger will bite its prey's throat. Though the Bengal tiger is capable of killing large animals, it seems to prefer killing either young, small animals or older animals, since young and old animals are not as fast as the others. Saving the Endangered:
To save these tigers, a movement called Save Tiger has been working since 1972. Total number of tigers in India in 1972 was 1800 which has since then increased to 3500-4000. Efforts of the Government, NGOs and the people have brought about this change.
