Flashback
It depicts the Union of two schools of thought - Hinduism and Christianity.
The Portugese on their arrival to India found a peaceful place for worship.
And here a Monastery was found behind the wall. So they decided to place a
statue of Mother Mary and conducted regular masses inside the caves. They
whitewashed the place and made it suitable place for worship. Years passed
by and after some forty years the Archeological Survey of India found these
caves. On further study they found out that these were Hindu caves with a
Shivling of stone placed inside the caves. The whitewash (paint) was washed
off and the Bajrang Dal (a political party of INDIA) THREW AWAY MOTHER MARYS
STATUE. Later on it was recovered and placed back in the Church premises.
Thus the Hindu Mandapeshwara caves which are said to be built by the
Buddhist Monks share a common wall with the Church. The cave is now a
renowned temple visited by thousands of Pilgrims each year.
