Abbey Falls also known as Abbey Falls is at a distance of about 10kms from
Madikeri Village of South Karnataka. Located Admist the Coffee Plantations,
Abby Falls provides a beautiful resting place in the city. With the
thunderous sound coming from the falls, it attracts all those who come to
MEDIKERI and also those who do not visit this place. The Abbey Falls fall
near the Coffee Plantations and the dense bushes and green tress where the
Kaveri River cascades down the
rock.
The roaring sounds of the falls are so much that they can be heard from a
distance. The water flow is very high during the monsoon season which is
also the best time to see the Abbey Falls. A hanging bridge is there which
passes near the fall and gives a beautiful view of the Abbey Fall. Abbey
Falls is surrounded by the greenery of the coffee plantations and the
cardamom plantations. Thousands voices of the unseen birds too can be heard
in between the sounds of the falling waters.
Medikeri where the Abbey Falls are located are also one of the small yet
beautiful Hill Stations of South Karnataka. Coorg or Kodagu meaning Dense
Forest on Steep Hill is also called as the Scotland of India, has the most
beautiful Hills and breathtaking views which it offers to its tourists.

Nagarhole National Park
Nagarhole National Park is the most beautiful of all the Parks and
Sanctuaries around. It derives its name from the winding river
Nagarhole meaning Snake River. The 640 sq km terrain at the foothills of
Brahamagiri Hills is covered with thick Tropical Forest, grassy swamps
and numerous rivers and streams. One can look for bison, elephant,
spotted deer, sambhar, barking deer, wild boar, mongoose, and other wild
animals and birds in the Nagarhole National Park.

» Around Abbey Falls :
Dubare : This largest Elephant Capturing and training Camp of
the Forest Department at the edge of the Dubare Forest, on the bank of
the River Kaveri is a place to see. The Elephants with the help of the
Tribe Kurbas are captured and kept in wooden cages for six months. Once
the elephants are trained, they are used to attend to odd jobs like
lifting heavy logs. In the evening they are treated with a special treat
of Ladoos made of Ragi and Jaggery size of Cannon Balls ! Some of
the tourists are given ride in the evenings.
Irrupu Falls : South of Brahamgiri Range of Hills, river
Lakshmana Tirtha Flows. This river made by the Laxmanas Bow falls into a
Cataract known as Irruppu Falls. This place is supposed to cleanse the
sins of any one who prays wishfully. Near the Irruppu Falls is a temple
dedicated to Lord Rama who passed this place while looking for his
beloved wife Sita along with younger brother Laxman. So, Irruppu falls
is both a beautiful place and a religious place.

- Be here in the rainy season as the falls are their best in the
months of July to September end.
- Bring your own snacks as there aren't many facilities around.
- If you bring children along, hold their hands lest they fall in
the Abbey Falls.
- The nearest town Medikeri, barely 10 kms has all the facilities of

- Bring along umbrella, if you are here in the monsoon season.
- Keeping the sanctity of the nature and the surroundings do not
Litter. There is fine over it too.
