Falling in the middle of Dehradun and Mussorie, the Kempty Falls are the
major attraction. The area of Kempty Falls was developed by John Mekinan in
the year 1835. The name Kempty is derived from the word Camp Tea as
Britishers would organize their Tea Parties here. The falls drop drown at an
astounding height of 4,500 ft. Splitting into five other cascades , the
water further falls down 40 ft giving the appearance of water jumping on the
rocks below. It looks as if the water is playing with the rocks. Another 12
kms down the Hill and the waters of the Kempty reach the legendary waters of
Yamuna River.
Situated on the Hilly tracks of Uttaranchal, the Kempty Falls are
stunningly beautiful. The Falls are a good place for picnic or for spending
a couple of hours listening to the music of water in the midst of the
Greenery which cover the surroundings of the Kempty Falls. However, staying
here is not at all a good idea as there aren't any tourist camps or
cottages. Kempty falls are best seen while en route to Mussoorie from
Dehradun or from Mussoorie to Dehradun.
