Minicoy
Island has amazing beaches, which offers facilities and services that meet
every tourist's expectations. The beach here has bathing huts, changing
rooms and water sports arrangements. The 300 feet tall lighthouse, the lava
dance and the races between local boats called 'Jahadhoni', are amongst the
many attractions in the island.
» Kadmat : Known for its pristine beaches, lagoons and scuba
diving facilities, Kadmat is one most lovely beach resorts in the
Lakshadweep group of Islands. The stretches of sandy beach to the south of
the island are perfect spot for sunbathers. Beach huts are also available
for those who are looking for shades and a cool place to relax. If you are
searching for adventurous activities then go for kayaking trips, or try
water skiing, sailing, or riding on pedal boats. Kadmat is also one of the
best sites in India for scuba diving. While diving you will meet tropical
fishes, sharks and rays at Kadmat beach in Lakshadweep, India.
» Agatti : Agatti Island serves the incoming and the outgoing
air-passengers of the Lakshadweep island, for it owns the only airport of
Lakshadweep. Agatti boasts of a beautiful beach and lagoon, which is ideal
of the beach enthusiasts around the world.
» Bangaram : Close to Kavaratti and Agatti is the Bangaram
Island, known for its lovely beach. The bioluminescent plankton that are
accumulated on the beach during high tide, makes the beach glow with a blue
light at night, the beauty of which is unimaginable. Bangaram is also known
for the bird population making the place truly celestial for the travelers.
Climate
The Lakshadweep has a tropical climate and the temperature remains moderate
throughout the year. Summer continues from March to June, monsoons from May
to - October, and winter from November to February. The summer at
Lakshadweep is warm, while winters are pleasant. November to February is the
best time to visit this place.
Way to Lakshadweep
» By Air : Cochin International Airport links Lakshadweep with
the mainland. Cochin is served by Air India, Indian Airlines as well as many
private airlines to many part of the country and to selected foreign
destinations. Agatti is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Helicopter transfer
is available from Agatti to Bangaram Island Resort during monsoon and to
Kavaratti through out the year.
» By Sea : Four passenger ships- MV Tippu Sultan, MV Bharat
Seema, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep.
The journey takes between 14 to 20 hours. The ships offer different classes
of accommodation; A/C Deluxe Class with two berth cabins, A/C First Class
with four berth cabins and Tourist Class with A/C seating. Cafeteria and
snack bars, entertainment lounge, video shows and upper-deck promenade etc
are also offered in MV Tipu Sultan and MV Bharat Seema. Comfortable A/C
accommodation is offered by MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy. The ship services
are available during Monsoons, that is between 15th May to October 15th.
