Mysore is the second biggest city in the State of Karnataka. It was the capital city of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. Today Mysore district is a popular tourist destination, offering varied attractions ranging from the royal splendour of Mysore City and its exquisite temples. Also known as the City of Palaces, Mysore retains a quaint charm that never fails to enchant the visitors.

City Tour:
Situated 763 meters above sea level surrounded by hill ranges from north to south, it is known as the 'Garden City'. Mysore District today inhabits a population of over seven lakhs. The chief language of the people is Kannada in this part of the area. Mysore is home for perfumed, incensed sticks specially of sandalwood. The city is also famous for ivory items. As far as the cuisine is concerned the city does have some mouth watering vegeterian delicacies to offer. Gourmet items such as set dosai, sagu masala dosai, Madduru vadai are a range of fine offering. Pai vihar and Dasaprakash offer fine cuisines though expensive.

Palace of the Maharaja of Mysore
The grand palace with its four arched entrances stands at the centre of the town. This palace rivals the best in the world. Covered with golden domes and home to the most expensive royal. The whole palace is lit during weekends with thousands of lights, makes it a great sight.

The Venkatappa art gallary conducts courses in traditional painting, drawing and woodwork. Other places of interest to visitors are Brindavan Gardens, Srirangapattana, Rangana Tittu bird sanctuary, Chamundi Hills, Nanjanagudu, Bandipur forest reserve, Shivanasamudra falls, and Talakaadu.

Mysore is renowned for its silk that bears a mark of high quality and everlasting lustre. There are beautiful silk apparels that are made by the famous silk factory at Mysore. The place is also famous for sandalwood products made from pure sandalwood at the sandalwood factory.

Climate :
The climate is very moderate and pleasant throughout the year. Temperature is slightly high during summer and will be between 30 to 36 degrees. The rainy season is from June to October. Average rainfall in the City is 86 cms per year. The best season to visit Mysore will be the month of October/November during Dussehra as the whole of Mysore wears a festive look and the weather is also very pleasant.

Get to Mysore:
» Air: There are no direct flights to Mysore, but can reach Bangalore by air & then use train or bus services.

» Bus: The central bus terminal handles all the KSRTC long-distance buses. Buses travelling within city, Srirangapatna & few other local places ply from the City bus stand, near KR Circle. In addition to the KSRTC buses, there are a number of private bus companies which run to places such as Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Mangalore, Ooty, Pune and other places.

» Train: Mysore is now board-gauge destination, which has direct trains to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Mangalore etc.
