With the first sunlight people flong at the Ghats of holy river
throughout India. This Puja is commenced by a dip in the river. Closing
their eyes and by chanting Mantras (religious hymns) they bow down in
front of the Lord Sun seeking his blessings. Prayers are held and food
in the form of Prasada is distributed. Laddu of Jaggery and cashew nuts
are prepared as the main food of the day. On this day some people even
distribute food and clothes, give out donations to schools; in a way do
a number of things to help the less privileged.
