Bangalore is considered to be the Garden City Of India and in this city,
spreading over a whooping area of 240 acres, of Parkland, is the Lal Bagh of
Bangalore City. Lal Bagh is considered to be one of the most richly diverse
Botanical Gardens in South Asia. Modelled on London Crystal Palace, it has a
Glass House which is considered to be the best place for horticultural
shows.
The construction of the Lal Bagh Garden began in the time period of Hyder
Ali - the then King of
Bangalore, but
it was completed by his son - Tipu Sultan - the bravest King Bangalore ever
produced. Tipu Sultan further decorated the garden by importing several
plants from various countries. The garden modelled on the famous Mughal
Gardens of Sira, Karnataka, has some rare species of plants brought from
Persia, Afganistan and France. The Garden was modelled in the 18th century.
The Archeological Survey has listed the Lal Bagh Garden in its survey.
