Rock Garden

Made from Urban and Industrial Waste, this garden was made by a Simple Road Inspector named - Nek Chand.Waste Ceramics, Coal and China were used to make different cute structures. The Rock Garden is spread over an area of 40 acres of wooded land near the Capitol Comlex. The Rock Garden construction was initiated in the year 1957. It is a Sculpture Garden located in Chandigarh, Punjab.

It was the Simpleton Nek Chand who worked on this World Famous Garden. He used to make these structures in the dark of the night, solely. By the time Authorities discovered this illegal work, hundreds of sculptures were already made. After much fumes, Nek Chand was given salary by the Government of Chandigarh plus a helping hand of 50 workers so that he could concentrate on his work - full time. And thus came into light - the Rock Garden. (Before the Rock Garden was made, this place was the dumping ground of the industrial wastes. Converting the wastes into different sculptures, turned it into a beautiful garden.). Today on an average of 5000 people visit this place every day. This figure comes out to be second after Taj.
