Lord Shiva has been designated as the Destructor - the one who is the
destroyer of the world. His anger is more famous than the Legendry God
himself. The way he charms his worshippers with his soft hear, the same way
he erouses fear in them by his anger. Lord Shiva is prayed along his wife
Goddess Parvati. It is said, when Shiva was telling the secret of Creation
in the Amarnath
Caves to his wife Paravti, a pair of
Doves hears it. It is here, in the Amarnath Cave, the doves are reborn again
and again. This heavenly adobe is their home. Travellers, walking towards
the cave are said to have seen the two pair of Doves..
The Legend :
The legend goes that once there was a Muslim Shepherd named Buta Malik.
Buta Malik was given a sack of coal by a Sadhu. Upon reaching home, he found
the container not filled with Coal but Gold! Surprised and happy he went
back to the Amarnath to thank the sadhu, but here he found a Cave which
thereafter became a place of pilgrimage. To this date, donations given are
passed on to the descendants of Mallik and the remaining to the
Shrine who runs the trust.
Another legend is that when Kashyap Rishi drained the water of Kashmir
Valley, the Bregeish Rishi discovered the cave and the lingam who was
travelling the Himalayas.
