Coconut Rice


Coconut Rice is a South India Recepie, which is a preparation made by Rice. The ingredients used in the coconut rice are as simple as its preparation. Yet the aroma of the Coconut rice sets it apart from other dishes. Prepared in a very delicate manner, it is often served with Sambar and Cococnut Chutney. Rasam also makes a part of the unique dish.

Full of carbohydrates and other minerals, this food can be served to people of all ages.


Coconut Rice

Ingredients :
  • 1 large grated coconut
  • 3-4 green chillies as per taste
  • 3-4 spoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • cashew nuts
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 large cup Basmati Rice
  • Salt as per taste

    Preparation Method

    Take the 1 cup of Basmati rice and wash it thoroughly under flowing water. Then keep the pressure cooker on full flame. Put the entire rice in the cooker and add water 1/4th to the amount of rice. Keep the lid and let the simmer come twice. As soon as the simmer comes, put down the cooker at one side.

    Now take a deep frying pan and put it on slow flame. Add the coconut oil to it and add mustard seeds to it. When these seeds began to splitter add the remaining coconut oil and put the grated coconut to it. Now add the urad dal, green chillies, chana dal, cashew nuts and curry leaves. Stir them for five minutes till they become golden red. Now add salt to taste.

    On the other hand open the lid of the cooker and add the entire rice to the masala of the pan. Stir them and serve hot with Sambar and Chutney.


    Our Suggestions
    • Coconut Rice is a South Indian Recepie and is best served with Sambar Dal and Coconut Chutney. The better the ingredients are fried, the best they taste. But don't over fry them.
    • Coconut Rice is usually served in the afternoon in lunch or during Dinner. It is never served in Breakfast.
    • If want to learn cooking South Indian Dishes, then the South Indian lady is the best person around. However if you don't have any South Indians, then there are specialized cookery classes. Go for one.
    • Apart from Coconut Rice there are other famous delicacies too. Give a try to Sambar Vada, Doasa Sambar, Idli and various types of Chutnies. You will surely like them.
    • Chutnies ( Indian Sauces ) make an important part of the South Indian Food. Places like Kerala are famous for South Indian Delicacies. Don't forget to try them.
