This comes from Kerala - the Fried Prawns. In Gods Own Country, there is a
special taste added to it. Unlike other South Indian Delicacies, it takes
quite less time to prepare this dish. Mostly prepared in all South Indian
Homes and a part of every Non - Vegetarian Hotel/Restaurant, it is one of
the most delectable South Indian Delicacies.
Fried prawns are not only famous in Indian but also in Countries like Japan
where they are taken with Worcester Sauce and Lemon Juice. Chinese too
prefer to make Fried Prawns on daily basis. For them Fried Prawns is a
common food.
Fried Prawns
Ingredients :
- 20 - 30 Prawns
- 1 tsp Soya Sauce
- 1 tsp Vinegar
- 1tsp red chilli powder
- 1- 1/4th tsp pepper powder
- 1 tsp lime juice
- 2 eggs
- 250 gms breadcrumbs
- 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 tsp cooking oil
- salt as per taste
- 1 tsp corn flour
To be ground :
If you dont get the market garlic and ginger paste, you can make it at
home. It tastes the same.
Preparation Method
Cleaning the prawns is the most important thing. Clean them thoroughly,
leaving them leaving the tails intact. On the other hand make a paste of
garlic and ginger, lemon juice, salt and pepper and then keep the prawns
in this mix for 3 - 4 hours. Then make another mix of battered eggs and
wheat flour.
After 3 - 4 hours are complete, put the prawns in the battered eggs
mix. To this mixture add the breadcrumbs and make a nice coating of the
paste on the Prawns. Heat oil in a deep fry pan and then fry the prawns
till they turn slight red. Take them out in a platter, garnish with lime
juice and chopped coriander and serve with Chutney.

South India. These are prepared on special occasions.
- Fried Prawns are not only liked in South India
but in West Bengal Also. Though people make it with special
interest, still it is more easily found in South India than Bengal.
- Fried prawns are usually not stored for long
time. If you want to store them, then keep them in the refrigerator
in a air - tight vessel. Fried Prawns have a shell life of 2 days
maximum ( that too in refrigerator). Best when served hot.
- Other then the Fried prawns there are other
South Indian Delicacies too which must be tasted.
Sambar, Appam and
Idlis are the most famous of them. Try these out in Calcutta and
Kerala -
they taste best here.
