Located in Rajasthan, Bharatpur is a
showcase of the most prolific bird life in the country. Keoladeo Ghana
National Park commonly known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is the most sought
after wildlife sanctuary in India. After Indian independence, the Reserve
was notified as a Bird d Sanctuary. The park offers exciting sights of multi
colored birds, fluttering and chirping in their habitat. It is now described
as "one of the most magical places for bird watching on earth".
Avain's Paradise:
Birds come to this national park in waves. Today, the Park supports a
population of 375 species of varied birds, out of which some are foreign
visitors. The onset of winters welcome numerous migratory birds from all
over world.
They arrive by August and leave in February. Visitors include Coot Snipes,
Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porhard, Rosy Pelican and Flamingo. The The
star attraction however is the Siberian crane. The topography of the area
comprises of scrublands and grasslands. These kaleidoscopic range of birds
find refuge in the 29 sq km of shallow lakes and woodland, which makes up
the park. One will find several species of cranes, pelicans, geese, ducks,
eagles, hawks, shanks, stints, wagtails, warblers, wheatears, flycatchers,
buntings, larks and pipits.
