Matheran Toy Train



This Toy Train goes to a small Hill Station which is also the most beautiful Hill Station around. Matheran the Hill Station meaning Jungle Head or Forest on Top is around 108 kms from Mumbai. Beginning at Neral, the Mumbai Pune Line, it culminates at Matheran. The hip hop ride includes beautiful eyecatching natural sceneries. This 90 minute journey was started by Abdul Hussain, the son of Business Tycoon of Mumbai- Sir Adamjee Pheerbhoy. It was 1907 that the first journey of Matheran Toy Train took place.

The Train begins from Narel and crosses Hardal Hill, Jammapatti Station, Bhekhra Station, Mount Barry, Panorama Point, Simpson Point and reaches Matheran Bazar, its last destination.

Experience Adventure :
  • The 20kms long train, running between Neral and Matheran reaches an altitude of 2500 ft above the sea level.
  • The train covers a maximum of 12 miles in an hour thereby allowing the passengers ample time to soak in the beauty of the surroundings..
  • The Entire Journey takes 1 and 1/2 hr to complete.
  • Considered the best Hill Station around after Lonavala, its also a weekend destination from Mumbai.
  • The Matheran Toy Train covers 8 stations in all from Neral to Matheran. Matheran is the only Hill Station in India where motor cars are not permitted.

The train runs everyday from Neral with minor changes in the schedule as per the weather conditions. There are four pairs of train which run along the specified path. Changes, if any can be known from the station once you reach the respective station.

Detailed Itinerary

Neral : Neral is the beginning point of the Train. It is from here that you ride the train. From here it moves to its next destination Hardar Hills.

Hardar Hills : Hardar Hills provide hilly beauty as you see the wooded Hills. The sceneric beauty of the Hills can be captured from here. The real ascent of the train begins from this point. The train passes by Jammapattii Station where it stops for fifteen minutes. Here you can have the refreshments.

Bekhra Station : From Bekhra Station you reach the Bekhra Kund. This Kunda can be seen from the train path. The Horse shoe embarkment near Mount Barry is a captivating scene to look at. The trains runs another mile before it reaches the five minute long tunnel.

Panaroma Point : After zig zagging twice from the tunnel, the Matheran Toy Train reaches the Panaroma Point. Panaromic as the view is from this point, here the train stops for 10 minutes for you to have a view of the scenery.

Simpson Tank : The last point is the Simpson Point before reaching Matheran Bazzar or Market. From here you can take a cab to see the beautiful Matheran Hill Station.

    Suggestions
    • Half fare for children between 5 and 12 years of age. 10 % surcharge plus 3 % service tax which can change as Govt. of India rules.
    • In case of no show, no refund shall be done. In case of en route termination for any reason, there shall be no refund under any circumstance. The amount for the unused portion of the tour will betreated as forfeited. Any kind of amendment is possible only in case of Natural Disaster or serious ailment certified by a practising Doctor.
    • The ticket once bought cannot be cancelled. The train ticket can be brought from Neral Railway Station or any of the other mentioned railway stations.
    • The train begins from Nareli and ends at Nareli. However you can get on the train at any of the stations mentioned in the itenary and get down at any of the stations. The train begins from the first sunlight in the morning and ends with the last sunlight in the evening.
    • Be sure to wear or carry a woolen jacket even if its a sunny day as the weather here is highly unpredictable. Also carry a small umbrella for the rain to come.
    • During monsoon i.e. June to September, only one pair of train is run to open timings.
