The Village

To say its a tribal Village, dominated by Dzomsa. Located at a height of 9200 ft in Sikkim, its located in North Sikkim. Its a beautiful place, one can see the China Border from here as its near China. Located just 110 kms from Gangtok, its a Bhuita Village which is Himalayan in its true sense. Its here where the Indias third highest mountain range Kangchendzonga lies. It also has a Kangchendzonga National Park.

Its famous for its Buddhist Monastry, the Lachen Monastry and the natural beauty its has at such a height. Some Finish missionaries also found here. It is said that it were the Finnish people who bought the Apple Plantation to this place years back.

Famous Sites:

Mask Dance
Keeping with the Bhutian Culture, the Lachen people wear various masks usually resembling the kings, queens and the dragons while dancing in the festive time. The stories told in these dances are those of Kings, Queens and the Culture and Tradition of Sikkim.

Yak Race
Hopping on the back of the migratory animal Yak dosen't seem to be a dream here. And as ever the Yak Race is held in the New Year Eve in the fall of December end. But beware these seemingly quite beasts can play havoc when made angry!

Art and Craft

Lanchen is famous for its Handicraft. Blankets made from sheep wool, carved woodwork, furniture, signs, symbols and blankets are the main appreciated work of Lanchen Village.The villagers make rug and carpets from the yak or sheep wool. Coarse millet is the main staple food of Lachen Village.

Local People
The people of Lachen are simple in nature and dressing. Rice, potato and pork are the staple food of villagers of Lachen. Rice is supplemented by noodles, local breads, and other local dishes like corn and Sikkimese Momos. The Village has a Butian Culture with Mask Dance and Yak Race as the main part of their culture. Loosong is the new year celebration which falls in the December end.

There are a number of attractions in Aranmula Village :

» Kancgchenzonga Range : Hot springs, trek routes, lakes, spirings and the Kancgchenzonga RangeYaks, Angora farming, and the National Park of Lachen Village are awesome in their own sense. The more you visit these, more you get surrounded by their beauty.

» Chopta Valley and Tso Lamhu Mountaineering Expeditions: Mountaineering expeditions and mountain drive to Gurudongmar Lake at a height of 17100 ft, near Tibet Border is one of the major attractions of Lachen.Excursions beyond Lachen to Chopta Valley and Tso Lamhu, the source of river Testa requires a permit. On of the best Himalayan trekking routes are the best things one can have here.

Our Suggestions

It is one of the perfect destinations to see both - the hill station and the Indian Village.
The roads to Sikkim usually get closed in the month of November to the beginning of January - so make a plan to visit this place in the months before or after these months.
Gangtok in itself is a beautiful place - Tashi View Point, Kancgchenzonga Range, Ganesh Tok, Botanical Garden, Monastries, Hot water Springs, Rope Way are some of the most famous attractions of the place. Its a beautiful place to be in, especially in the months of May and June - the Indian Summers.
If you are looking for the best Chinese Food in India, then Sikkim is the best. Here they prepare it really fast and it tastes like anything. The Chinese Food variety is the largest here.
Though all the things are easily available in the markets of the Sikkim, keep the daily use stuff with you for the roads. It takes time to reach Sikkim and Gangtok and the roads can be jammed for hours, so if you have kids with you, keep one bag full with foodies and mineral water.
