Customs
of Sindhi Wedding : All the Sindhi Weddings have some common pre and on marriage ceremonies : » Pre - Marriage Ceremonies : Misri Ceremony : Misri Ceremony is the ritual where the rings are exchanged between the boy and the girl. It is thought that the fourth finger of the hand has the passage to the Girls Heart. So the Groom puts the ring in the fourth finger of the left hand of the girl. Simultaneously, the girl puts the ring in the right hand of the groom. This completes the heart. Mehandi : Various designs of flowers, animals and leaves are made on the hands and the feet of the Bride. After this ceremony, the Bride gets ready for the marriage. When the Groom enters the Brides Home, he puts his Foot over the Brides Feet, signifying he will lead the relationship from now onwards. After this the Grooms feet are washed with milk signifying his welcome in the Brides Home. » Marriage Ceremonies : Kanyadan : After applying some turmeric paste on the Girls hand, the father of the Bride gives her hand in the hands of the Groom. This signifies that he is passing on his responsibility to the Groom. This Ritual is called Kanyadan - Kanya meaning Daughter and Daan meaning Giving. Hastamilap Ceremony : After the Brides Father Hands over her hands to the Groom, both of them join hands. 24 Threads of Cotton are winded together and then placed on the hands of the bride and the Groom. This thread is then offered to the God. After this, the Bride and the Groom are made to sit in front of the Pyre. Vows are recited as the couple moves around the fire in a circle. As they sit down after four circle, around the Fire God, the Brides hands are filled with rice, oats and leaves by her brothers and Uncles. This Ritual called the HastaMilam signifies the union of the two souls. The marriage is somenized and the elders/relatives of the bride and the bridegroom give their blessings to the newly married couple. Salt Ceremony : This last ceremony is done in the Grooms hand, where the Bride passes on a fistful of Salt to the Groom without dropping a pinch of salt.
