The Groom, usually wears a Sherwani with Jootis and Pagari. The Sherwani is of light color and the Topi/Safa is of dark red color. |
Customs
of Upite Wedding : All the Upite Weddings have some common pre and on marriage ceremonies : » Pre - Marriage Ceremonies : Rokka : This is the Tradition where the boy and the girl get committed to each other. In this it is decided that the boy and the girl so engaged will marry each other and no one else. Mangni : Mangni - The Engagement, is the formal acceptance of the both the families, that the boy and the girl are now a part of both the families. Marriage Rings are exchanged in this ceremony. Chunri Chadan : A few days before the marriage, the to-be-in-laws of the Groom come with the Thaal of Shagun to the Brides home. . Here the red colored chunri/silken robe is put on the head of the bride and the Red Bangles (Indian Jewellery) to be worn by the bride on the Wedding Day are given. Sangeet : A day before the marriage, the marriage songs are sung, dances are done and sweets are distributed among the relatives and well wishers. Mehandi : Mehandi or the Indian Tatoo is one important function of the Indian Marriage. A day before the Marriage, the Mehandi is applied on the hands and feet of the Bride. It is said, more the color of the mehandi, more will the bride be loved by her In - Laws. » Marriage Ceremonies : Chuda Ceremony : In the early hours of the Marriage day, the In - Laws of the Bride come and present a red Saree/ Ghaghra Chunri to the Bride. These are to be worn by the Bride in the evening for the Marriage. Sehrabandi & Ghodi Chadna : Evening is the time when the Barat from the Grooms side sets off to the Brides home. For this the Groom rides on the Ghodi ( She - Horse). Songs are sung and the Grooms family dances as they cover the area till they reach the Brides home. Milni Ceremony : The Groom and his relatives are received by the Girls relatives at the Marriage Venue. Rose petals and perfume is sprayed on them as they are welcomed inside the Wedding Hall. Varmala and Phera Ceremony : After the Barat reaches the brides home and they are welcomed then the Groom is taken to the stage. Then the Garlands are exchanged in between the Bride and the Groom. This is called as Varmala Ceremony. After the Varmala Ceremony, the bride and the groom are led to the mandap. Here they sit in front of the God Fire. Pheres ( rounds taken in front of a small pyre while chantings is done) are taken and then the blessings. The pheres signify that the boy and the girl have become the married couple.
